At MWC 2026, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) demonstrated its Intent-Based Network Management System, built on the proprietary Athena Orchestrator platform, enabling operators to manage O-RAN telecom networks through natural language instead of conventional manual command entry.
At the core of the system is an Intent AI Agent with two key functions: it automatically interprets operators' intent and requirements, then plans and executes the corresponding network commands based on real-time network conditions—delivering an end-to-end workflow from stating a goal to completing the task.
In field testing using ITRI's O-RAN architecture with Pegatron base station equipment, the system achieved 95% intent recognition accuracy, 95% parameter extraction accuracy, a 70% reduction in maintenance time, and up to 2x improvement in signal quality.
This demonstration underscores ITRI's commitment to advancing AI-native network management and strengthens Taiwan's influence and competitiveness in next-generation telecom operations and international standardization.
